Tucked away in the heart of the Rideau Lakes region, The Opinicon Resort feels like a place you stumble upon and immediately want to keep to yourself. Located in the village of Elgin, it’s about 50 minutes from Kingston and roughly 1 hour 15 minutes from Ottawa, making it incredibly accessible while still feeling worlds away from the rush of city life.
From a wedding photographer’s perspective, it’s hard to overstate just how special this venue is. I’ve had the chance to photograph three weddings here, and each one felt completely unique while still carrying that unmistakable Opinicon charm. The setting strikes a rare balance—refined but relaxed, elegant without being overdone.

The Ceremony
The property itself is a dream backdrop. Nestled along the shores of Opinicon Lake, it offers sweeping waterfront views, beautifully maintained gardens, and a collection of heritage buildings that give it that timeless, almost storybook feel. There are so many natural “frames” for moments—tree-lined paths, cozy docks, wraparound porches, and tucked-away corners that create intimate, cinematic scenes without needing to stage anything. It’s the kind of place where the light just works with you, especially in the evening when the lake softens everything into that warm, golden glow.

Cocktail Hour and Photos
What really sets The Opinicon apart, though, is the experience—and that starts with the staff. Every time I’ve worked there, the team has been genuinely exceptional. They’re organized without being rigid, attentive without hovering, and they truly care about the couple and their guests. As a vendor, that makes an enormous difference. The day flows seamlessly, timelines stay on track without stress, and there’s a calm, supportive energy behind the scenes that allows everyone—especially the couple—to just be present.

The Reception
For couples looking for something intimate and low-key, this venue is especially perfect. It doesn’t feel like a typical “wedding factory.” Instead, it feels like hosting a meaningful gathering at a beautiful lakeside estate. Guests can stay on-site, wander the grounds, sit by the water, and fully immerse themselves in the weekend. That sense of connection—both to the place and to each other—is something you can’t manufacture.

Golden Hour Photos
If you’re drawn to venues that feel personal, scenic, and effortlessly beautiful, The Opinicon is easily one of the best wedding locations in Ontario. It’s not just a place to get married—it’s a place to experience something truly memorable, both for you and everyone who’s there to celebrate with you.
